Bryan Shearer founded RTK Media LLC to bring an auditor's mindset to public-interest reporting. An accountant by profession, he combines a love of questioning everything with a focus on tracing records, testing claims against the underlying evidence and reporting what the documents actually show. His accounting background is especially valuable in public-spending investigations, where budgets, payroll, overtime, financial statements and other government records can be tested line by line rather than taken at face value.
That outside perspective shapes RTK Media's approach. The goal is not to begin with a conclusion. It is to identify the records that should exist, obtain them when possible, compare them with official statements and explain the results in a way readers can independently evaluate.
